The National Bird of St. Vincent and The Grenadines
St. Vincent and The Grenadines is the home to many species including one of the most exotic birds known as the Amazona Guildingii.
On October 27th ,1979 the Amazona Guildingii was declared as the National Bird of St. Vincent and The Grenadines. On the feathers of such magnificent bird you will find colors of blue, yellow and green which represent the colors of the National Flag of the island. There are two different color morphs. The more common yellow-brown morph and a less common green morph.
The Amazona Guildingii is 40 cm long . The breeding season usually commence from January to June , however, most of their breeding takes place mostly from February to May. The birds' nest can be found in holes that are in large mature trees. They are common in laying one to two eggs. The bird's diet consists of fruits and nuts.
The Amazona Guildingii can be found at the oldest garden in the western hemisphere known as The Botanical Garden located in none other than St. Vincent and The Grenadines.
